Four hours in Istanbul: A quick bite أربع ساعات في إسطنبول: لقمة سريعة

I just arrived to Ataturk Airport for a 7 hours layover in Istanbul on my way to Palestine. I have no idea how or why but I just found myself on the passport control, got into a taxi, and was on my way to Taksim. I wanted to eat everything I was missing in Turkey and I was on a 7 hours mission to do so. I was way too excited that I forgot to take out my camera and ended up with all those mobile-quality pictures.

I started off ofcourse in bakery; my favorite bakery in Istanbul Simit Saray. I got the cheese burak, the potatoes puff pastry, and the delicious simit. All these deliciousness needed a cup of Turkish tea. Simit is a circular, sesame crusted bread with a hard crunchy crust and a chewy soft interior. Variations are found in Istanbul, Izmir, and other Turkish cities as well as other Middle Eastern countries. In Palestine, we have the delicious Jerusalem Ka'ak, which is usually thicker with a softer crust.

وصلت مطار أتاتورك وكان لازم أستنى ٧ ساعات لرحلتي التانية بطريقي لفلسطين. ما بعرف كيف أو ليش بس لقيت حالي عند ختم جوازات السفر، ركبت تاكسي، وعلى طريقي لتقسيم. كنت بدري أكل كل إشي اشتقتلو بتركيا وكان معي ٧ ساعات لأخلص هأي المهمة. كنت كتير متحمسة لدرجة نسيت أستخدم كاميرتي وصورت كلشي بالموبايل.

أكيد بلشت بمخبز؛ مخبزي المفضل باسطنبول هو سيميت سيرأي. جبن بورك الجبنة، بف بيستري البطاطا، و السيميت التركي اللذيذ. وما بتكمل هالوجبة إلا بكاسة شاي تركي. السيميت هو نوع خبز/كعك دائري، مغطى بالسمسم بكون قاسي من برّة طري من جوة. في منو أنواع مختلفة في إسطنبول، أزمير، ومدن تركية تانية والشرق الأوسط. في فلسطين، عندنا كعك القدس المشهور، إلي بكون بالعادة أعرض وأطرى.

Walking in Taksim is a full experience; live performances, delicious food, languages from all over the world, and the prefect rainy weather.

I snacked on some delicious chestnut; this is a famous street snack found in kiosk all around Taksim.

The buffet-style restaurants are very common there; they usually offer authentic Turkish dishes with appetizers, drinks, and desserts.

المشي بتقسيم تجربة كاملة؛ عروض فنية، أكل زاكي، لغات من كل العالم، وجو مطر بجنن.

تنقرشت على شوية كستنا؛ الكستنا من النقارش المشهورة في الشوارع على أكشاك صغيرة في تقسيم.

المطاعم مع بوفيه كتير مشهورين بتركيا؛ بالعادة بقدموا أطباق تركية تقليدية مع مقبلات، مشروبات، وحلويات.

A visit to Istanbul is never complete with some Turkish dessert; baklava and Turkish delights. Hafiz Mustafa is known for the best Turkish desserts; Walnut Baklava, Pistachio Baklava, and Pistachio Rolls. I got lost with all the delights options and ended up buying more than 5 packets; pomegranate (my favorite), rosewater, plain, with pistachios, honey,…..

وزيارة لإسطنبول ما بتكمل إلا بالحلو التركي؛ البقلاوة والراحة/الحلقوم التركي. حافظ مصطفي محل مشهور بأزكى حلو تركي؛ بقلاوة جوز، بقلاوة فستق حلبي، ولفائف فستق حلبي.

ضعت بكل أطعام الراحة وشريت أكتر من خمس أنواع؛ بالرمان (المفضلة عندي)، ماء الورد، العادي، مع فستق حلبي، بالعسل ....

Walking around Taksim, I found this hidden gem with the cutest old man selling Turkish ceramic and antiques. I couldn't resist buying some beautiful ceramic plates for my collection (stay tuned for its feature in my next recipes). The 4 hours passed way too fast and I just realized I had to start heading to the airport leaving this city that never fails to put a smile on my face! 

وأنا بمشي بتقسيم لقيت محل مخبا ببيع فيو زلمة كبير بالعمر سيراميك وأنتيكات. ما قدرت أقاوم إلا أشتري من الصحون السيراميك وأضيفها لمجموعتي (إستنوا تشوفوا بوحدة من وصفاتي الجاي). الأربع ساعات مرّوا بسرعة وبس لاحظت إني لازم أرجع على المطار وأترك هاي المدينة إلي دايما يتخليني مبسوطة!
